regarding the scene you couldn't render, what gpu do you have? not that I've ever done any rendering my self, but i can't imagine it would take a ridiculous amount (more than 8) for these?
Heh, this ended up being a much longer answer than I expected.
At the time, I was using a 7 year old 980ti which had seen pretty much daily use during those years, so I'm honestly surprised it was still working at all. It was very very unstable to the point where I'd be having the entire PC crash up to 8 times an hour (Depending on what I was doing). Somehow I managed to set up that scene without it crashing, but it was late in the day, and I figured I'd come back to it the next day or whatever. However, after that the longest I was ever able to actually have the scene loaded was about 3 minutes before it would crash. Realistically, I probably could have actually done the renders, but it would have taken like 20 times longer than normal, so instead of delaying the update I just said fuck it and drew some stick people. Another fun fact about the 980ti is that it was the original reason that there aren't a whole lot of students at the academy. Since I could have a max of like 3 characters on screen at once without it crashing, trying to populate backgrounds and things was basically impossible without photoshopping every render, so I rewrote that part of the game to make the lack of students part of the story. This is also why there are strange shadow people in the lecture hall when Kellin is introducing himself and stuff. I'd planned to fill out backgrounds with those instead of actual characters, but it turns out they're almost just as bad for performance, so I dropped the idea after that. I still need to get around to going back to rerender that bit without the random shadow people, but I'm in no huge rush on that front.
These days, due to the generous support of those enjoying the game, I have a better GPU. Specifically, it was actually just one guy who straight up bought me a new one by buying the game for some silly amount with the agreement that I'd use it to buy the GPU, so now I have a 3060 instead. This, in addition to someone else doing something similar allowing me to get 64GB of RAM, has allowed me to start sometimes filling out backgrounds with the second year girls, which a lot of people mistake as me just adding more characters because I think that's what people want. The reality of that is that they're just the background characters I would have added if I'd had a better GPU from the start, but I decided to give them a little bit of personality at least because I kinda dislike the idea of actual background characters. At very least, I felt they should have names. I also figured I might as well use them occasionally for stupid scenes that would derail the main girls' stories if I were to have them involved instead. (Like the ghost dildo thing, which would clash pretty heavily with the story of any of the main girls who aren't already aware of MC's power)
I could definitely get that MS paint scene finished now though, but given how frequently I get comments asking me not to change it, it's not very high on my priority list. HS2 is quite poorly optimised though, so I can say that whilst 8GB of VRAM would be fine most of the time, a scene with 5 or so characters might start to struggle depending on the map. It kinda depends, but either way the main point is that you could probably have a 4090 and still run into issues in HS2 a lot sooner than you'd assume based on the GPU.
Liking this game a lot. My knowledge of British slang is pretty good, Spanish language countries varies a LOT and only know a few variations, Japanese and Russian non-existent, best I can do is read a menu using my alphabet and their words. Bellend ... is that really unisex? Very rarely encountered it, took way too much time screwing around on bike tour, and never got farther north than York because of time of year. My understanding was that (literally) it meant dickhead.
That's pretty much what it means, yeah. It can generally be used the same way any generic insult is used, where it isn't usually used to actually refer to the technical meaning of the term. Kinda like calling someone an asshole is almost never a case of calling them a literal anus.
It's not as common as it used to be, but does still get used. The main reason I used it in this case is because it's very much uniquely British, and felt like a decent way of accentuating the fact that Cassie isn't American. Couldn't use twat for that, which is another go-to, since Americans apparently do say that (Albeit, more like twought rather than twat.)

For Japanese (And Indonesian), it's all just google translate at the moment, but I recently got in contact with a Japanese translator, who has offered to make the Japanese that shows up in the game more organic, so the Japanese should soon be native accurate. Not so important to the actual game, but I like to get details like that right where possible.

So i also couldn't make just a new game and safe there, it always crashes the moment i right-click to get to the inGame-Menu.
There should be several ways to fix this but the best is to delete the most recent saved games found it both the <game location folder>\Stormside-v0.23.1.4-win\game\saves folder and duplicated in the users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Renpy\Stormside-1640885091 folder. This way you will not loose every save but just the one you do not want. If this fails you may have to delete all the saves and start a new game. This should work.
Awesome game I can't wait to see the new versions of the game, it's original, and with smooth animations, one of the best games I've ever played in this category, congratulations. and I hope that in the next updates there will be more lesbian content
It's a game about school where you're allowed to punish the female students. That's where the similarities end. I should probably just delete this since it's straight up just misinformation, but I won't. At least not for now. I want the headmaster to do well, but I don't see how you could play both games and still think mine is a ripoff. It'd be like calling all WW2 movies a ripoff of whatever the first WW2 movie was. *Just to edit this since I see the original post was deleted, I wasn't the one who did it.
So many games take place in school or with more of a dominant MC. Headmaster is clearly more linear and serious as of Stormside is way more open on how to play but also way more funny/corny.
Both cant be compared other then how the punishement are done.
Both great games with great future ahead. But i cannot way for the next Stormside update. I just want to know what is going on with MC being kinapped.
I wouldn't say Headmaster is more serious (been playing for years, and the humor is viciously dry with a nice dose of cynicism, which is why I love it). Only in the early stages of this game right now, but so far the uniform styles seem to to be the biggest similarity.
If I had a gripe, it would be with Itch. The "similar games" engines is a massive disgrace. As is the inability to search games by name and still not have them come up.
I'd also point out the limited number of scenarios where the concept works.
I will agree on all you said. But i think i did not elaborated enough on by Headmaster being serious.
Like Eternum it's full of joke that you can tell are jokes and will laugh as of headmaster. there's jokes there too but they are more subtile and also like you said dry. bot have jokes and are good but both are way different
it's not, like the dev said, similar themes, as a fan of both games i enjoy them as individual games, and to the dev, keep up the good work! cause this game has SERIOUS promise
Yes, it just takes a while. If it ever gets abandoned, I'll be changing the description to reflect that, as well as disabling patreon and all that stuff.
I hope the game doesn't get abandoned, i have played a lot of story games like this but i have to admit that this one is the most amazing one i have played

Not currently. I hear joiplay works, but I'm unlikely to be making an official android version until I'm able to go full time. For this game, it's not as simple as just pressing the "Build android version" button, unfortunately.
Had to create a account just to comment on this one. Awesome game ( and i`ve just played a few hours so far )! Great and diverse characters and it made me laugh quite a few times so far. Realy looking foreward for the rest of the story and my subsequent playthroughs. Keep up the good work!
I have trouble launching the Mac version of the game. I try of course setting the chmod +x on the Stormside file before but still. I get some python error in Terminal :
Could not find platform independent libraries <prefix>
Could not find platform dependent libraries <exec_prefix>
Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to <prefix>[:<exec_prefix>]
ImportError: No module named site
Hmmmm, I don't have a way of testing it myself, but I do occasionally get people reporting issues launching the game on mac. Unfortunately, since I know next to nothing about mac, there isn't really anything I can suggest beyond the basic stuff like making sure there isn't some kind of antivirus blocking it. The only google results I get for this error seem to suggest reinstalling python can resolve this issue, but I'd be surprised to learn that python is even required for the game to run (Far as I know renpy games come packaged with everything they need). Is it possible you have some kind of incompatible version of python installed which is somehow conflicting with the game? This is pure speculation, but since I won't be able to reproduce the error myself, that might be about the best I've got.
I did… I downloaded the Mac version from F95Zone… (not the Mega, the GDrive I think). Once I chmoded the file (like always for VN on Mac) it worked like a charm.
Oh yeah, this is fixed in the next update, but for now if you get this bug you can fix it by enabling the renpy console (You can google how to do this) and then part way through the text conversation with your dad, open the console with shift+O, then run the below command (Case sensitive, enter exactly as written)
messageCount = 1
After that, close the console and continue as normal, and it should let you play.
Not ideal, but one option is to use Chrome Remote Desktop, or Sunshine/Moonlight.
(The latter being a little more complex to set up, but also notably better due to the full screen. Remote Desktop leaves a border and doesn't scale to your phones resolution.)
Sunshine a host client for PC and Moonlight is the app for your phone that you'll use to connect it.
Whichever you use, you're just streaming the game from your PC to your phone.
Both let you use your phones touchscreen as a track pad to control the mouse, and there are various shortcuts for other function, like 3-finger-tap to bring up keyboard.
On that note, probably also a good idea to download the Hackers keyboard app if you go the sunshine route, since the native smartphone keyboard doesn't have things like Alt+Tab, F11, etc.
Edit: Sunshine/Moonlight also offer the benefit of being able to stream more mainstream games and use a controller that's connected to your phone, either via Bluetooth or USB.
No problem! Final recommendation that just occurred to me, you'll want your PC hardwired to your router unless your WiFi is 5g+high upload speed. Using 2.4g will be too unstable at anything but the lowest resolutions.
This also only applies to Sunshine/Moonlight.
Remote desktop isn't all that demanding, but there are no video quality settings or anything like that, and as mentioned before, it's not ideal for gaming, and frankly really doesn't work with games that require more than mouse input and an occasional key-press. Stormside would be okay, but GTAV, Minecraft, or any other "real" game would be nearly impossible to play with it.
Just started the game, and busted out laughing at the "Please continue to hold" gag, and the following dev comment. Disappointed to find that the dev did not, in fact, add the "Simulator" tag to the game.
Is anyone eslse having problems opening the game? It says there are not enough information in the dowloaded files. I thought maybe it was a download error. I tried downloading it 5 or 6 times already with the same result. Is it the game or just my Laptop is just dying?
I expect this is something to do with antivirus blocking it for whatever reason. That happens with renpy games sometimes. Assuming the download is complete, it's all in there, and I've never heard of an error regarding "Not enough information", but who knows.
Admittedly, the game is quite big for an AVN, and if you downloaded it 5 or 6 times, that must take quite a long time with itch download speeds. Are you sure it actually finishes downloading each time?
Yes it has download all those times. I have not thought of the anti virus. Mine blocks everything for some reason, so I can completely agree why this may be its fault/ Thank you for responding and clearing my doubt.
As soon as I can tbh. My issue is that I refuse to release it until it's actually ready, and I am terrible at estimating how long that'll take. The good news is it's relatively close, and for those who are in it for the sex scenes, there are like 7 new ones (I forget exactly how many). Main story people get some stuff too since this coming update goes into that a bit too.
Headcannon about the magistrate who was "injured" coming to Stormside: He was the protagonist from The Headmaster. I wonder how that guy would have handled Stormside?
Really nice that in the end you're given the option to unlock all the scenes! Bummer not all games are like this, really saves so much time and gets into what I personally like ;).
It's hard to say. I'm terrible with estimates, so the answer is basically as soon as I can get the thing finished. Next update is quite complicated, though not lacking in content for the intended "multiple playthrough" audience.
Not currently. It's something I'd consider trying to do if I were working full time on the game, but since for my game it would be more complicated than just pressing the "Build android version" button, it's not something I'm currently putting time into.
One day perhaps. Not your fault if you don't have the hardware to run it, it's more my fault for not making it run on the hardware. The good news is that when there eventually is an android version, the game should also have more content, so maybe check back in a year or so :D
After finishing headmaster and failing tk find a similar game i came across this and is actually adicting plus the walk-through notes are realy amusing
Loving this so far, however I do have a couple of things to point out. Well, just one prominent one so far, perhaps more as I finish current content and start a new playthrough for more in depth notes and such.
Most prominently, is the fact that several times you use the same music that Down the Rabbit Hole used for it's videos on Digital Homicide, over on Youtube. Which isn't a problem, per se, but is very strange for me...
Yeahh, one unfortunate thing about these kinda games is there aren't all that many devs who have the money to commission their own music, so we tend to use a lot of the same royalty free music as other devs, or even youtubers. I can't say I'm familiar with down the rabbit hole or which track you're talking about, but almost all of the music I use is kevin macleod stuff. With him being perhaps the most popular royalty free composer, it definitely won't be uncommon to find music from these kinds of games included in many other things.
It's, uh, hmm. Spy Glass by Kevin Mcleod, yeah. It's not a complaint, for sure, I totally get it. I've done the same thing in the past. It's just funny to be playing a fun AVN and hear the same music I first heard in a video about one of the most famous 'evil devs on steam' ahaha. Call it a cognitive dissonance XD
I get the exact same thing when I watch a youtube video and I hear any of these tracks xD
For a brief moment I'm like "HEY WAIT A MINUTE! THAT'S MY-" And then I remember that it's royalty free music and errrr, yeah...
For real though, Kevin Macleod is in my opinion one of the most important composers in recent history. I really hope he's getting the recognition he deserves financially. There are so many things which either wouldn't exist, or would be worse without what he does. Thanks Kevin.
I hate to even mention it, but I will anyways. Free services like suno.com will let you make ai music tracks and they even have instrumental only options.
I know a lot of people are loathe to see any ai anywhere, but I think this somewhere it might really shine.
This is due to an unfortunate space in the filepath for that sound file. It's fixed in the next update, but for now you can just press ignore on it and the scene will play (Albeit without music)
Do you receive any errors? I would expect this is a case of antivirus blocking is, since sometimes antivirus likes to block renpy games. Pretty hard to say though without further information.

question for dev for curiosities sake

大作,剧情生动诙谐,衷心希望能早日完成。
I can't personally attest to the accuracy of the Russian slang usage (Which doesn't come up often), but I get help with that stuff from my Russian translator, so I'd assume it to be reasonably accurate.
Is there going to be an android version?
Hey
i kinda fucked up my game xD
What i did:
I wanted to see what the last possible save-page is, so i first went left on the sites, to see if i skip from Autosaves to last page. Since i didn't, i wanted to use the page feature on the top right, missed the little minus and just tried to go to page -99 accidently
The Problem now:
The game crashed while trying to reach that save page, and whenever i try to get into the menu now it still tries to get to savepage -99 (i guess) and just instantly crashes. So i also couldn't make just a new game and safe there, it always crashes the moment i right-click to get to the inGame-Menu.
Do you think there is any possibilty to fix this?
There should be several ways to fix this but the best is to delete the most recent saved games found it both the <game location folder>\Stormside-v0.23.1.4-win\game\saves folder and duplicated in the users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Renpy\Stormside-1640885091 folder. This way you will not loose every save but just the one you do not want. If this fails you may have to delete all the saves and start a new game. This should work.
It worked! Only had to delete the recent Saves
Thank you very much!!!
If someone else ever also manage to fuck up like that
the username folder had a ...\AppData\Roaming\Renpy... in between
Again, Thank you Merlin!
Awesome game I can't wait to see the new versions of the game, it's original, and with smooth animations, one of the best games I've ever played in this category, congratulations. and I hope that in the next updates there will be more lesbian content
i just love that guy kellin.
It's a game about school where you're allowed to punish the female students. That's where the similarities end. Really looking forward to the next update. I think, I've taken every route that I can currently, really enjoyed this one
is this game still receiving update
Yes, it just takes a while. If it ever gets abandoned, I'll be changing the description to reflect that, as well as disabling patreon and all that stuff.
I hope the game doesn't get abandoned, i have played a lot of story games like this but i have to admit that this one is the most amazing one i have played
¸me too bro best game i have played in a long long while
i had tons of renpy errors one after another when i tried to change my name in one of the in-game phones apps it got to the point where i just had to keep hitting rollback constanly otherwise errors would keep showing up
Are you able to get a screenshot of one of these errors?
are you still updating this Atemsiel?
Yes, it just takes a while. If it ever gets abandoned, I'll be changing the description to reflect that, as well as disabling patreon and all that stuff.
yeah i get it and btw good game
is there no download for android

Also created an account just to say this is great.
Not particularly experienced with AVNs, but this blows the few I've played out of the water.
Great work, Atemsiel.

Best AVN i've played in a while, wondering where to get update news/ if theres a timeline for updates out already somewhere. Keep up the good work :)
Really fun characters and great story. Can't wait for the update
Hi @Atemsiel,
I have trouble launching the Mac version of the game. I try of course setting the chmod +x on the Stormside file before but still. I get some python error in Terminal :

Okay, thanks for the reply though. :)
Must find a way to play your game… >.<
Have you figured out how to get it to work?
I did… I downloaded the Mac version from F95Zone… (not the Mega, the GDrive I think). Once I chmoded the file (like always for VN on Mac) it worked like a charm.
And I really like the game, quite funny and sexy.
How do you tell which file you need to chmod? When I open the MacOS folder in contents, there are many files.
I am stuck at arriving at Stormside. I have clicked through the conversation with Dad and nothing happens.
I have scrolled back and redid the conversation and held D, and get a txt doc that says infinite loop. I then tried again still no luck.
The phone still has a flashing light on it as if I have messages but have clicked all of them.
Any ideas I am missing? It seems like a great game so far with lots of interesting content to come.
Oh yeah, this is fixed in the next update, but for now if you get this bug you can fix it by enabling the renpy console (You can google how to do this) and then part way through the text conversation with your dad, open the console with shift+O, then run the below command (Case sensitive, enter exactly as written)

Edit: Sunshine/Moonlight also offer the benefit of being able to stream more mainstream games and use a controller that's connected to your phone, either via Bluetooth or USB.
woah! I didn't get the full picture of what u r saying since this is all new to me. But I'll get this.
And I Thank You for ur time.🫂 Appreciate it.
When will the update be available?
They do long update cycles. So I wouldn't expect an update super soon. But it will be coming, roughly the 5-6 months is coming up
Should be in a span of this month or sometime later on. Like the guys said dev cycle is 5-6 months sadly.
really love this game, looking forward to future updates!
Am totaly stuck, i am below the cell with the candle and i found a book, wht i have to do, heeeeeeeeeeelp
You have to discover the ghost's name, don't know how because I just tried all names until one of them was correct.
To add on to what the other guy said, the library has a ledger which tells you who checked out each book. So the one in the ghost's cell...
When are we getting an update, by far my favorite VN.
Take your time. Given the quality of the game as is, I have no doubt in your words. Can't wait, but I will. Thank you <3
Headcannon about the magistrate who was "injured" coming to Stormside: He was the protagonist from The Headmaster. I wonder how that guy would have handled Stormside?
Fearlessly, the idiot faces the crowd smiling. Merciless, the magistrate turns around frowning. And who's the fool who wears the crown?
Really nice that in the end you're given the option to unlock all the scenes! Bummer not all games are like this, really saves so much time and gets into what I personally like ;).
Is still being updated?
Yes, it's just slow progress. If it ever actually gets abandoned, that'll be reflected in the game description. I don't like to mislead people.
And where could the next update be? I'm enjoying this one and hoping for a nex one soon
It's hard to say. I'm terrible with estimates, so the answer is basically as soon as I can get the thing finished. Next update is quite complicated, though not lacking in content for the intended "multiple playthrough" audience.
Any plans to release an android version? Considering my iPhone is out of commission
Not currently. It's something I'd consider trying to do if I were working full time on the game, but since for my game it would be more complicated than just pressing the "Build android version" button, it's not something I'm currently putting time into.
I see. Sorry I can't give it a go then. It does look like an interesting van. Hopefully an android build will come eventually
One day perhaps. Not your fault if you don't have the hardware to run it, it's more my fault for not making it run on the hardware. The good news is that when there eventually is an android version, the game should also have more content, so maybe check back in a year or so :D
I definitely will. I subscribed for updates so I'll be ready for it
Please add more to it i love it its a 100 out of 1
After finishing headmaster and failing tk find a similar game i came across this and is actually adicting plus the walk-through notes are realy amusing
Pizza Time :D
As if I didn't just one hit ko this guy. Love the little jokes in this game
THAT'S MY-"
And then I remember that it's royalty free music and errrr, yeah...
Stormside v0.23.1.4 - Windows
While running game code:
IOError: Couldn't find file 'audio/Music/BasementFloor.ogg '.
Full traceback:

File "Events/Z 2) New Responsibilities/Day11 (Mon)/4A) RileyPunishment1.rpyc", line 1059, in script
This is due to an unfortunate space in the filepath for that sound file. It's fixed in the next update, but for now you can just press ignore on it and the scene will play (Albeit without music)
Is that so? The game/audio/Music directory is empty. My workaround was to dump a dummy ogg file and rename it with BasementFloor.ogg
Do you receive any errors? I would expect this is a case of antivirus blocking is, since sometimes antivirus likes to block renpy games. Pretty hard to say though without further information.
it say nothing, just does not open
